Samsung Galaxy S10 and Note 10 series soon receives fix for bug in fingerprint scanner

Recently, there are many complaints reported on Samsung Note 10, Note 10+, Galaxy S10, and S10+ phones that the fingerprint sensor is working even with the finger prints that are not registered. This issue occurred because of some screen protectors used for these phones. Samsung explained that this problem is due to specific screen protectors that are made with silicon as they retain fingerprints.

The company announced that it is going to fix this problem by the end of this week. Meanwhile, they suggested the users to delete the fingerprints that were registered with the screen protectors and again register without the protector. Samsung, South Korean electronics giant fixed this issue in its country and it will soon release the upgrade worldwide.

If once the update is released, the notification regarding that upgrade won’t be disappeared until you install it on your device. Latest ultrasonic scanner is used in the new Samsung Galaxy handsets to scan your fingerprint. One of the USPs of this ultrasonic scanner is that it can read the fingerprints that are greasy or wet. This feature itself bought the issue regarding fingerprint sensor.

A user stated that when she scanned the lock of her phone with finger that was unregistered, phone got unlocked and she also mentioned that the same happened with her husband’s thumb. This problem also occurred when they used the same protector on another Samsung S10 device. As said above, this was due to the textured inner surface of the silicon protectors they are using. And so the Samsung is requesting the users to again register their fingerprints without screen protectors till they fix the issue.

This is not the case with all screen protectors as the fingerprint scanner is facing problem with some specific silicon screen protectors. Also, it is only misidentifying the thumbprints and not all. However, it is still a problem for users as it is related to their security and privacy. The new algorithms by company will not allow the contaminated data to go forward and will surely prevent the protector pattern from registering the fingerprints. So, keep an eye out for the new update from the Samsung as it is going to release it soon.

Samsung said that the security of their electronics and users are taken very seriously and to strengthen the security they will keep their continuous efforts and provide the upgrades to users for enhancement and improve the authentication of bio-metric sensors of their mobiles. Temporarily, several banks removed the payment/sign-in with fingerprint verification. The Bank of Chine already removed the authentication through fingerprint from respective Samsung devices. Not only that even Alipay’s app halted the fingerprint verification temporarily.

Both Samsung Note 10 and Galaxy S10 devices were blacklisted in several banks in the UK. They are investigating the payments made from these devices and it continues even after their an upgrade to all the existing devices. It is not sure about when the update will be available around the world to all Note 10 and S10 devices. So, it is recommended to remove all the recorded fingerprints and again register the fingerprints without the screen protector. Also, it will be more better if you stick to password or pin or facial recognition without using the fingerprint sensor until the update is made available.
